Apple iPhone recycling is easy and good for the planet. You may have run out of your device, but it most likely has more to offer. We will guide you to recycle it. This way we save valuable materials and claim less from the planet.

1. Recycling steps

Return your device for recycling in just a few simple steps.

1) Backup your device

Don’t lose your data. Back up your Apple devices so your content and settings stay with you even after you hand them over.

2) Delete data from your device

Before handing in your device, please remove your personal information. This data belongs to you and not to anyone else.

3) Ship your device

Pack and ship your device with the label provided by our recycling partners.

2. What to do before selling, giving away, or trading in your iPhone or iPad

Use the steps below to transfer information to your new device and delete your personal information from your old device (if applicable). Before Apple iPhone recycling, selling, giving away, or trading in a device, you should first transfer your information to the new device and then, if applicable, delete your personal information from the old device.

When you are signed into iCloud with your Apple ID, you should not manually delete contacts, calendars, reminders, documents, photos, or any other iCloud information. This will delete your content from iCloud servers and any devices signed into iCloud.

1) If you still have your old iPhone or iPad

If applicable, follow the steps below to transfer your information to your new device and delete your personal information from your old one if your Apple iPhone was been recycling.

#1. Transfer information to your new device

Quick Start can automatically transfer information from your old iPhone or iPad to your new one if you have iOS 11 or later.  If you’re using iOS 10 or earlier, use iCloud, iTunes, or Finder to transfer the information to the new device.

If your phone number will change with your new device, please add another trusted phone number to your account to ensure you don’t lose access. If you no longer have access to your old phone number, you can optionally generate two-factor authentication codes on your old device.

#2. If applicable, delete your personal information from the old device before the Apple iPhone recycling

  1. If you’ve paired your Apple Watch with your iPhone, unpair your Apple Watch.
  2. Back up your device.
  3. If you purchased AppleCare for your device, cancel your AppleCare plan.
  4. Disconnect from iCloud, iTunes, and the App Store.

    • Tap Settings > iCloud > Sign Out if you’re using iOS 10.2 or earlier. Sign out again, then tap Delete from My [device] and enter your Apple ID password. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store > Apple ID > Sign Out.
  5. If you’re switching to a non-Apple phone, unenroll in iMessage.
  6. If in-store trade-in is supported in your country or region and you trade-in at an Apple Store, stop here, don’t wipe your device, and go to the nearest Apple Store to pick up your new device. Once the specialist has completed your trade-in, they will be in-store with you through the remaining steps. If you are completing your trade-in online, proceed to step 7.
  7. Go back to Settings, then tap General > Transfer or reset [device] > Erase all content and settings. You might need to enter your Apple ID and password if you enabled Find My [device]. If your device uses an eSIM, select the option to wipe the device and eSIM profile when asked.
  8. If asked for a device passcode or restrictions passcode, enter it. Then tap Erase [device].
  9. Please contact your carrier for assistance transferring service to a new owner. If your device does not use a SIM card, you can contact them for help transferring service to a new owner.
  10. Remove your old device from the list of trusted devices.

2) If you no longer have an iPhone or iPad

If the steps above were not completed and you no longer own the device, use the following steps:

  1. Ask the new owner to delete all content and settings using the steps above.
  2. If you’re using iCloud and using Find My [device] on that device, log in to iCloud.com/find or the Find My app on another device, select the device, and tap Erase. After the device is wiped, click Remove from Account.
  3. If you are unable to perform any of the steps above, please change your Apple ID password. This won’t delete the personal information stored on the old device, but it will prevent the new owner from deleting your information from iCloud.
  4. If you’re switching to a non-Apple phone, unenroll in iMessage.
