Your used smartphone is valuable. If you’re ready to trade in your iPhone X and upgrade to the iPhone 11, find out who wants it and what it’s worth. When you’re ready to buy a new smartphone, don’t just stash your old iPhone X in a drawer. You can recycle your phone and get cash back, or at least donate it. This guide describes ways to recycle or sell an iPhone X.

Just keep in mind that new phones (such as the new iPhone 11 or iPhone 11 Pro ) as well as big-name manufacturers (Apple and Samsung are the most popular) will mean a higher price for your device. Also, be sure to shop around.

Prices vary from company to company, depending on their current inventory and expected demand. I checked what each company was offering for the 256 GB iPhone X at the time of publishing this article.

Here are 17 ways to recycle or sell your iPhone X.

1. Gazelle

Gazelle is huge. The company’s 67,500-square-foot warehouse in Louisville, Kentucky, employs more than 300 people and conducts online purchases and resales by phone. Selling your device on Gazelle is easy. Start the online process by describing your phone and its condition.

Your mobile device will be shipped to Gazelle’s factory in a padded bright orange box after you receive an estimated price for it. I sold an old iPhone this way and within a few days, I received an email confirming that my phone had been received and it was in slightly better condition than I described so Gazelle upped the offer some dollars.

You will receive payment by check or PayPal (whichever you prefer). If you allow Gazelle to send you Amazon gift certificates instead of checks or PayPal, you’ll get an extra 3% off your phone.

Be forewarned: You will receive an email from Gazelle if your phone is not in the condition you described. You can choose to accept the new offer or have the phone returned to you. Gazelle offered $359 for a 256 GB unlocked iPhone X.

2. EcoATM

EcoATM is owned by the same parent company as Gazelle. Like Gazelle, instead of sending your phone through the mail and waiting for a check, you can just take it to an EcoATM kiosk and get cash instantly. You can enter details about your phone online to get an estimate of its value. You’ll get less money than if you took the time to mail it to Gazelle, but you’ll get your money when you drop your phone off at the kiosk.

EcoATM is offering $275 for a 256 GB unlocked iPhone X, the lowest of any provider.

3. Trademore

If you want to sell your phone on the spot, choose Trademore. You get an estimated price, and Trademore sends you a prepaid package to ship your smartphone to its warehouse. If the phone fits your description, you’ll get a full refund; otherwise, like Gazelle, you’ll get an offer for less.

You can choose to accept a range before sending the phone or specify that you only accept the original offer. Pay via virtual MasterCard gift card or PayPal. Trademore bought a 256 GB iPhone X in perfect condition with Verizon for $440. (Pricing for the unlocked version cannot be directly compared with other sites.)

4. BuyBackWorld

At BuyBackWorld, the process is similar to other companies that buy used phones. You enter a description of your phone online, and you get an estimated value for the device. With BuyBackWorld, you can choose to accept one of two types of payments: payments that are processed regularly, or express payments that are smaller but arrive sooner.

Express payments are sent the next business day after the company receives your used phone, whereas regular methods can take up to a week to process. You can receive payments by check, direct deposit, PayPal, prepaid debit cards, or BuyBackWorld store credits. Store credit offers a 5% bonus on your payments.

BuyBackWorld is offering me $466 for a 256 GB unlocked iPhone X if I want recurring payments, or $426 if I want the quick payment option.

5. Swappa

Swappa is an online consignment store where you sell your phone for a certain price and wait for a buyer. Swappa gives you advice on how to prepare your phone for sale, how to close the deal, and ship it properly. You’ll usually get more money here than if you buy the phone from a company that resells it. You can check out recent sales price data on Swappa to get a better idea of how to price your phone.

Swappa charges a flat fee per sale, which is paid by the buyer. For example, Swapa charges $20 for a $550 phone. The seller needs to pay the shipping cost to the buyer. Once your phone is sold, Swapa deposits the money into your PayPal account – you don’t have to wait for the buyer to receive their phone to pay. The 256GB unlocked iPhone X is currently priced at $609 to $805.

6. Amazon

You can find trade-in prices on many items, including smartphones, in the Amazon trade-in store. You can only get paid with Amazon gift cards, but for many Amazon regulars, that’s the same as cash. Log into Amazon and get a quote on your old phone, then ship it to Amazon. You will receive a payment within approximately 10 business days.

The trade-in value for a 256GB unlocked iPhone X I bought on Amazon was $370.05.

7. Glyde

Glyde changed the sales model. You can no longer list your phone and wait for a buyer to buy it. Instead, the site is about to launch a new TessaB mobile app that will allow Glyde customers to run diagnostic tests on their devices and receive cash offers or trade-in credits.

8. Best Buy

Best Buy has a trade-in/trade-in program that allows you to get a certain amount of money for your old phone in the form of a Best Buy gift card. You can mail the phone, or take it to a store for an agreed-upon amount. Best Buy is offering $350 for what I imagine is a 256GB iPhone X.

9. eBay

The long-established online auction site remains a popular place to sell used smartphones. As always on eBay, choose your price, take a few pictures of your unit, and put it up for sale. Most payments are made through PayPal, with buyers depositing money directly into your PayPal account.

eBay charges sellers 10% of the final sale price of your item. EBay also offers flash sales, where you can immediately get an offer on your phone and sell it to eBay for resale: however, only certain phones are eligible for flash sales. After I said I’d include the earphones and charging cable, my imaginary iPhone X was worth an estimated $586.

10. uSell

Used phones from Apple, Samsung, Blackberry, Nokia, HTC, Sony, Motorola, Google, and Huawei are accepted by uSell. You will receive a prepaid shipping kit and have the option to pay by PayPal or check.

uSell has a 256 GB iPhone 8 Plus on Verizon for $383.98.

11. NextWorth

At NextWorth, you just do what you normally do – get a quote online, ship the equipment, and wait for payment. This is the fastest browsing site and you can choose to pay by PayPal or check. NextWorth offered me $363 for a 256 GB iPhone 8 Plus on Verizon.

12. My Phones Unlimited

My Phones Unlimited has an easy-to-navigate website and accepts a range of devices, including laptops, tablets, and some versions of the Apple Watch. The company offers prepaid shipping kits, and you have a 14-day window to guarantee your quote. This is up to 7 days longer than some competitors. You will receive payment by check within 10 business days.

They perform a secure wipe on every device they receive, so you can rest assured that your own factory reset has been successful. My Phones Unlimited has a 256 GB iPhone 8 Plus on Verizon for $375.

13. Apple

Apple offers a trade-in and recycling program for used smartphones. If you bring back an old phone, Apple GiveBack offers an Apple Store gift card or a refund on a new purchase, and if it’s an older model with no value, you can still send it in for proper recycling.

Apple is offering $400 for a 256 GB iPhone 8 Plus on Verizon.

14. Samsung

You can recycle your Samsung mobile device through Samsung’s recycling program. You will not receive any payment for the purchase of this equipment, but you can rest assured that it has been disposed of properly.

15. LG

Best Buy, The Salvation Army, and various waste management companies accept LG’s old phones for recycling.

16. Soldier Cell Phone

You also have the option to donate your phone to charity. The Soldiers Cell Phone Organization accepts old cell phones and sends the devices to soldiers so they can call their families back home. If you don’t have a phone to donate, they also accept cash donations to buy airtime for soldiers.

Please consult your carrier. There are a number of buyback and recycling programs offered by Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile.

17. State and local government take-back programs

Many state and local governments have electronics recycling programs for the proper disposal of devices. Check your state or local government website to see if this option is available in your area.
